SELF Ecosystem Overview

About SELF

SELF is a privacy technology ecosystem centred on SELF App, a production progressive web application operated by SELF Technology Pty Ltd in Australia.

SELF App brings private AI, encrypted storage, messaging, mail, calendar, office tools, a wallet and browser-based network participation into one account and one client-held key hierarchy.

SELF App

SELF App is delivered primarily as a browser PWA. It launched in December 2025 and runs in production with free and paid tiers.

Live capabilities

  • SELF AI: An assistant with persistent memory. Text inference runs on SELF's dedicated infrastructure using a 27B model.
  • SELF Vault: Encrypted file and folder storage, sharing, teams and permissions.
  • SELF Messenger: Direct and group messaging with client-side encrypted content and attachments.
  • SELF Mail: @self.app mailboxes for paid accounts.
  • SELF Calendar: Encrypted event content, reminders and calendar import.
  • SELF Office: Documents, spreadsheets and presentations with real-time collaboration.
  • SELF Wallet: Balances, transfers, swaps, history and rewards.
  • Browser validator: Network participation integrated into the PWA.

Privacy model

Encryption keys are derived on the user's device from a 12-word BIP39 recovery phrase. SELF does not receive those keys and cannot reconstruct them. Passkeys authenticate the user and remain separate from encryption-key derivation.

The client encrypts AI conversation records, messenger content and attachments, vault content and metadata, calendar event content, SELF-to-SELF mail and validator private keys before storage. Servers retain ciphertext without the user key.

Some services have clear processing boundaries:

  • AI context is processed ephemerally by SELF's self-hosted inference infrastructure.
  • Optional web search sends the search text to a data provider when the user invokes that feature.
  • Standard internet mail can be readable while crossing between SELF and external mail providers.
  • Routing, timing, public wallet addresses and limited service metadata remain available where delivery requires them.

Core SELF App content is processed and stored on core application infrastructure in the European Union. Application services run on dedicated infrastructure in Germany, with GPU inference and object storage in France. Documented boundaries apply to external mail, optional web search, payment processing and static frontend delivery.

Celestial and the SELF App Constellation

Celestial builds dedicated blockchain networks configured around an organisation's identity, governance, economics and ecosystem. These networks are called Constellations.

SELF App runs the first live Celestial Constellation. Its chain components run on infrastructure operated for SELF App, and browser-to-browser consensus is deployed in production. Celestial provides the broader Constellation technology direction, including Proof-of-AI consensus and configurable dedicated networks.

Ecosystem and operating roles

SELF App and Celestial have distinct, complementary roles.

  • SELF App offers zero-knowledge, client-side encrypted private AI, messenger, email, calendar, storage and wallet capabilities. The platform offers a freemium subscription service for users and B2B white-label opportunities for organisations with sensitive or regulated data.
  • Celestial builds dedicated blockchain networks configured for each organisation, its governance, economics and ecosystem.

The operating and token responsibilities are separate. SELF Technology Pty Ltd in Australia operates SELF App. SELF Technology Limited in the British Virgin Islands handles token issuance as a separate entity.

How the platform runs

The production database uses Patroni high availability. Database hostnames do not define a permanent primary or replica. Roles can change during failover, and application writes pass through local health-checked routing to the current primary.

Architecture principles

  • Client-held keys: User encryption keys originate from the recovery phrase on the device.
  • Bounded privacy claims: Public descriptions distinguish encrypted content from the metadata and processing required to deliver a service.
  • Self-hosted AI: Text and image inference run on dedicated infrastructure controlled by SELF.
  • EU core infrastructure: Core SELF App content and core application processing remain in Germany and France, with documented external processor boundaries.
  • High availability: Paired services, Patroni failover, health-checked routing and tested backups support recovery.
  • Sovereign participation: SELF App integrates wallet and validator functions into the browser experience.
